About

What is this blog about?

From newsroom to classroom, journalism must evolve, not die. The Journalism Classroom Notebook blog takes the best of what’s working in newsrooms and applies it to scholastic journalism. And maybe soon enough, innovations from the classroom will make their way to professional newsrooms.

Who writes this blog?

I’m a former newspaper reporter who left the newsroom to teach journalism to high school students.  I’ve been asked why I’d want to teach a profession that’s in a decline. I can’t think of a better reason. To learn more about me, please visit www.andrearlorenz.com.

What do posts contain?

I hope to share lesson plans with an emphasis on multimedia and convergence journalism, examples of professional and scholastic journalism and musings about journalism in general.

Is there still a need for journalism education?

Delivery of journalism might be changing, but the principles haven’t: telling good stories, serving as a watchdog on government, educating people about what’s going on in their community. Whether through words on a printed page, images on a website or a 140 character-tweet, journalism will survive.

Here’s to the future.
